God heals. But stories help inspire our healing, both for the writer of a book and for the reader. Putting language onto our deepest experiences helps us make meaning of life events, the good and the bad, even as words help us understand what happened.

As scholar James Pennebaker says, “If you can’t explain something to someone else, you probably don’t understand it yourself.”
